The Association for Craft Producers (ACP) was founded in 1984 and is a local, not for profit, fair trade organisation providing design, marketing, management, and technical services to low-income Nepalese craft producers.

ACP has steadily grown from 38 producers and 5 full time staff to 1000 artisans (90% female) and 60 full time staff.

ACP is founding member of WFTO ASIA, and has been a member of the World Fair Trade Organisation since 2003.

ACP is situated at the foot of the Himalayas and takes careful and deliberate steps to preserve their environment. They harvest rain water and have installed a waste water treatment plant, they also use recycled paper, and use water based pigments for printing and have substituted acetic acid with hydrochloric acid in dyeing. They also harness the steam released during cooling off of the boilers in the dyeing process to heat water for felting .

ACP provides various benefits for is producers only some of which are given below:

Foresight Fund –

At retirement for those who have complete 4 years continuous service ACP provides producers an annual payment of 1 / 12 of their previous annual earnings. This is paid into an interest bearing account.

Child Education Allowance –

Recognising the need for education particularly among girls ACP allots a monthly allowance for up to 3 years to producers who keep their daughters in school for at least four consecutive years. ACP then supports the three most outstanding students for a fourth year.

Medical Allowance –

After completing 6 months in the association, producers are eligible for a medical stipend to use for themselves or their family. 

Workshop Cafeteria –

Producers that work in the main facility unit receive hot, nutritious meals and hygienic drinking water at a subsidised rate.
